Carl Groombridge, Animal Centre Manager/Lecturer, said:

"We had to prove to Blue Cross that we are always improving animal welfare.  The judges were extremely impressed with our students, who took the judges on a tour of the centre and answered their questions.

"We are delighted with the awards that are testament to our dedicated and committed Animal Centre team.  We educate our students in a range of disciplines, including Zoological Management with a practical emphasis on designing and constructed enclosures for a wide range of species.  The emphasis is firmly on meeting industry standards so that our students are well prepared for careers, and are the top choice with employers.

"We are fortunate to have two of the biggest zoos in the country on our doorstep – Woburn and Whipsnade.  We have strong links with them and understand the importance of training students to their requirements.  Many of our students have begun their careers at Woburn and Whipsnade as a result.

"This is the first time Blue Cross have made awards in all three categories.

"Excellent news for Shuttleworth College, for our Animal Centre and most importantly for our students."

The Animal Centre is home to just about every family of species from across the world and habitats are designed and constructed by students, so that when students leave Shuttleworth College they are well qualified and have the experience needed to start their careers.

Shuttleworth College offers a range of courses for those who want to learn more about animals, from Saturday morning sessions for children and adults to full time courses leading to Animal Science qualifications.
