World-class art talent

Friday 9 May 2014

The number of students going on to great success in design careers is greater among the ‘talent pool’ at Bedford College than almost any other in the UK.

The Foundation Art and Design cohort at the South Bank Arts Centre is larger than all but one other FE centre in the UK. It is a move in the right direction towards real jobs for those who have studied art A Level at school.

The quality of work on the course has been praised by a recent BTEC External Examiner who said:

One of the key features of the programme delivery remains the inspirational nature of the teaching. Students are encouraged to be experimental, they are also challenged by the amount of work expected of them and this in turn yields excellent results which demonstrate effective individual development. A great enthusiasm for the work continues to come through clearly in the sketchbooks and in the written feedback from the students who this year demonstrated particularly effective and comprehensive self-evaluation skills. Critical reflection is embedded into the creative processes and this was clearly seen in the design processes and development in the sketchbooks.

It is unusual not to make any recommendations following the SV visit. However, this FAD programme remains exceptionally strong in organisation, administration, delivery, teaching, content assessment and IV, therefore recommendations are not required.
