World Skills via Bedford College

Friday 24 October 2014

Bedford College is one of an exclusive group of 16 Premier Colleges supporting The Skills Show to be held at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

The Further and Higher Education Colleges from across England, will be showcasing an extensive range of career options on offer for young people.

From 13th to 15th November 2014, the show will welcome tens of thousands of visitors and will host over 60 competitions including the WorldSkills UK national finals. Among these will be pupils from Bedfordshire schools who have been given access to travel bursaries by Bedford College. Nearly 400 Bedford College students are also attending.

The show’s patron, former TV Dragon and entrepreneur Theo Paphitis, believes the event will inspire the young. Theo, photographed at the Bedford College animal sciences stand last year said:

“From my experiences, I know how energising it can be to discover something that you are really good at and would recommend the event to anyone who is considering what their next step might be “

Bedford College will be participating some of the main ‘have a go’ sessions at the exhibition: Aerospace Engineering and Health & Care. In addition the college will have an Electrical Installation stand and will be showcasing IT skills.

On the evening of Thursday Nov 13th Bedford College’s employer relationship team will be meeting with Theo Paphitis and major companies to discuss skills demands of the future.

Bedford College Principal and CEO Ian Pryce CBE said: “We are very excited about our activities this year and we are all committed to raising awareness of what a college education has to offer.”

The Skills Show is free to attend and there are limited travel bursaries available for some group bookings. Bookings can be made online by visiting www.theskillsshow.com. The show is part of Find a Future, an organisation which brings together the nation’s flagship skills and careers experiences.
