Sensory Garden planned for Bedford College - plus a contest to contribute ideas.

As part of a £2 Million development project for Bedford College, a wildlife-friendly, sensory garden is planned alongside St Mary’s Street.

A competition is being run, which is open to a wide range of young people, to help design the wheelchair-accessible garden which will be next to the new LLDD building for those with additional learning needs.

There are prizes of £50 iTunes vouchers for the best four entries and from these elements of the designs will be included in the final sustainable garden.

Details of how schools and students aged 14+ can enter can be obtained by contacting

The entries and winners will be announced at a Construction Sustainability Exhibition on May 19th. Schools are invited to attend the construction event which will have a range of employers looking for the next generation of architects, bricklayers, carpenters and more.

The garden competition is being sponsored by Bond Bryan Architects, Project Management Solutions, Scott White & Hookins Building Services Design.

Ashe Construction are working closely with Bedford College on the LLDD project to demonstrate their joint commitment to training for the construction industry – especially in the modern areas of sustainable design and build. The design is in keeping with College House on St Mary's Street (on left of image) said to be the oldest brick built property in Bedford.
