World class Apprenticeships in Luton

Friday 11 December 2015

Bedford College is confirming its position as THE provider of Apprenticeships in the county with the official launch of the Luton Training Centre.

Already working with international giants Vauxhall and Lockheed Martin, Bedford College is now targeting smaller companies in the South of Bedfordshire and Luton who need apprentices.

The team are in the Luton Training Centre in Castle Street. The 3rd floor suite has been turned into an Apprenticeship and professional business qualifications training environment to meet the needs of local businesses.

At the official launch on Thursday 3 December Ian Pryce CBE, Principal and CEO of Bedford College said: “We are committed to the whole community of Bedfordshire and Luton and that includes helping reach the government’s target of 3 MILLION Apprenticeships. We are already the biggest provider of Apprenticeships and are now bringing this service closer to employers in Luton.”

Luton Apprenticeship Manager Mary Palmer said:

“Apprentices can be a boost and bonus for smaller businesses - allowing them to grow their team while keeping staff costs down.

“If a smaller business works with an experienced college such as ours we can help make the hiring process simpler and less expensive.

“Once you have that new person on board they can add to the skills your organisation has to offer.

“Hard-pressed existing staff who are juggling too many tasks can be freed up to use their experience in a way which is more beneficial to the company.

“And an injection of youth and enthusiasm can give your organisation new energy.”

Already some key businesses are sending their staff for training at the Luton Training Centre, instead of having to travel to the Bedford campus.

Said Mary: “This is an important step forward for Bedford College by setting up directly in the heart of Luton and helping companies in this fast-growing area to access training for staff.”

Mary will be able to offer step-by-step guidance to businesses who have never before employed an apprentice, and a helping hand to young people who are seeking work.

“Our location in Luton will help both employers and potential employees who we plan to get ‘job ready’ for companies,” added Mary who has worked with 100s of young apprentices over the last eleven years.

Apprenticeships will be available in Accountancy, Business Administration, Contact Centre Operations, Customer Service, Health & Social Care, IT Applications, Management, Team Leading and Warehousing & Storage. These will be available in Intermediate, Advanced and Higher Level Apprenticeships.

Bedford College is a world class training provider helping to put Bedfordshire and Luton on the map by working with global technology and manufacturing companies, training farmers of many nations via the Shuttleworth College Campus and winning Gold on the global stage of The Skills Show in November 2015.
