Technology and Leadership: Two National Award Nominations

Thursday 12 February 2015

Bedford College is looking forward to hearing the result of the TES FE Awards on 27th February, after being shortlisted in two award categories.

The awards celebrate dedication and expertise within the further education sector, which helps young people and adult learners to improve their skills levels. Nominations were open for all in the UK FE sector, including colleges, work-based learning providers and community learning providers, with six shortlisted in each category.

The first category Bedford College has been shortlisted for is Outstanding Use of Technology in Further Education for innovative development of Moodle, the College’s Virtual Learning Environment to provide an effective learner management system. This award will recognise and reward the further education provider that has “demonstrated an innovative, strategic and far-reaching use of technology in support of the goals of that institution”.

Secondly, Ian Pryce, Bedford College Principal & Chief Executive, has been nominated for FE Leader of the Year.

“I feel very honoured to be shortlisted for the Leader award and it reflects an outstanding year for the College”, says Ian. “It should really be seen as an award for the College for the influence it has, and the impact it makes, on the lives of people in the community, and it’s always good to see Bedford being shortlisted for awards on a national stage. It should be a great evening.”

The award is aimed at recognising the best further education leader in the UK for 2013-14; a year when Bedford College rescued apprentices from the Bedford Training Group when it closed down, took over the failing UTC Central Bedfordshire at the request of the DfE and purchased the former Bedford Girls High School building for the College’s Sixth Form provision, The Bedford Sixth Form.
