Bedford College has been confirmed as the region’s leading modern engineering showcase through an investment of £4.5 Million in an advanced electronics, robotics and pneumatics centre.

Government Minister Stephen Williams announced an injection of the cash for the centre in Cauldwell Street as part of a £46.7 Million deal for the region.

Bedford College CEO and Principal Ian Pryce CBE said: “This is great news and shows how highly our college is thought of at Government level because of its links with modern employers and industry. We are licensed to skill young people for the very best jobs of the future.”

“Bedford College has moved from training people in traditional engineering to embracing the very latest technology which is essential for Britain to compete in global terms. Here in Bedford we are preparing young people to be world winners.”

The centre will be complete in September 2017.

Bedford College has secured its position as the county’s leading link to engineering employment by:

*taking over a competing training provider and re-launching it as the Brunel Training Centre

*appointing an industry-experienced Apprenticeship Manager Rob Stonehouse

*dedicating a business development team to work with manufacturers.

*launching a cutting edge “Mechatronics Apprenticeship”

*setting up a BSc in Engineering linked with the University of Northamptonshire.
