Sailing up-stream towards employment

Monday 1 June 2015

Setting sail for a career in event management, tourism promotion and more, are talented HNC/HND students at Bedford College.

The Travel and Tourism cohort have been working closely with the John Bunyan Boat team to come up with a dream deal for The Barns Hotel in Cardington Road, Bedford.

The riverside venue has its own moorings from which bridal parties can set sail on the popular boat. So the college students have been preparing a brochure to market the wedding and cruise combination.

Bedford College Course Manager Jennie Porter said: “This element of activity is about working on a real live project with a client, who is this case is Graham Mabbutt, Joint Chair of the Bedford and Milton Keynes Waterway Trust.”

“Working with Graham and the boat team has been valuable experience for a succession of our students.”

“Those who worked two years ago on an idea for the Bedford to Great Barford boat trip have now progressed on to jobs in the industry or further study.”

“Real life work experience with a business such as The Barns and the boat combined is a great opportunity.”

John Bunyan Boat can be chartered for private functions. There are also public day trips. Full details on
