Cleo's doing something she loves – thanks to Bedford College

Thursday 8 October 2015

Cleo Young is a young woman ‘facing up’ to life in business after completing courses at the Bedford College's High Street BROOKS Hair & Beauty Spa.

Cleo, 34, had a career in bar management in London before having her son, now aged five, and re-thinking her work prospects.

"I found an old school year book in which I said I wanted to work in beauty and have famous clients - it made me think I should do something I love," said Cleo.

She has made her dream come true. First working in make-up, she has built up a network of clients in the film and professional fashion business. She has worked on a few film sets and is waiting to hear about more. Alongside that she joined Bedford College to train in Hair & Beauty and then progressed to Level 3 to work as an apprentice in BROOKS providing the most advanced beauty treatments to paying clients.

"Setting up as my own boss means I can fit in seeing clients at various locations with my freelance film work, and looking after my son.”

"It's a challenge running your own business, there is so much to learn, but I have heard about various agencies which can offer advice so I will be following them up. And I will be carrying on my professional development with courses as they come up at BROOKS.”

"I would hope to have more film work to fulfil that dream of having famous clients. It's all been made possible by Bedford College."
