EU debate on film

Tuesday 21 June 2016

Bedford College students are in the midst of the (Lights, Cameras …) ACTION when it comes to filming important events as part of their course work.

A high profile EU debate organised by MacIntyre Hudson accountants at the Bedford Rugby Club reached No 2 on Twitter among those talking about the Referendum across the UK. There to capture the critical event on film were Tom Wild and the team from the Media Department.

MP Richard Fuller and MEP Richard Howitt debated the Brexit v Remain options for the UK before an audience of 100's of the town’s top businesses. You can watch it via

Tom and colleague Sean Doyle involve their students in many high profile events in town. These included screening two films at the Higgins Museum, one about a Turner exhibition another about Refugee Week during the Castle Quay Weekender; working on a commission by the Mayor of Bedford, and, in the can from earlier is the Passion Play parade, which brought the town centre to a standstill.

All this work contributes to student studies and in some cases elements of the filming are included their end of term “showreels”. A student production premiere was held at The Place Theatre, Bedford before an audience of family and friends.

“Working in real life situations with what are effectively clients is good experience which moves our students one act closer to being employable in a very competitive industry,” said Tom,

“We regularly shoot music videos for local acts and promotional films for businesses including one of ‘I am Strong’ a life coach.”

MacIntyre Hudson Marketing Manager Kate Englefield said: “We found the Bedford College team professional and so very helpful. Their work meant people had plenty of time to view it and consider the issues before the Referendum on June 23rd.”
