Uplifting engineering

Thursday 31 March 2016

Bedford College engineering apprentice Joseph Fairey was in the spotlight for the official unveiling of the Airlander airship at the world famous giant Cardington hangars.

Joseph, aged 18, who is an apprentice with Hybrid Air Vehicles, used to live in Shortstown in the “shadow” of the sheds.

In an interview with the Bedfordshire Times&Citizen he said he works on the airship engines and has been involved in other aspects of the project.

Joseph is one of three Bedford College apprentices working within the company.

The helium-filled airship is the latest in a long history of air flight engineering at Shortstown. Apprentices linked to the industry have studied at Bedford College for decades and today train on the very latest technology.
