This one-day course will enable you to achieve the legally required qualification for the Control of Pesticide Regulations (COPR) and is designed for anyone applying pesticides on a commercial basis. Training covers the legislation and safety aspects as well as the application of granular pesticides and is delivered by one of Shuttleworth’s qualified instructors at the Shuttleworth College campus. NPTC

Entry requirements

You can begin this course ONLY if you have already completed the Pesticide Application (PA1): Safe Use of Pesticides NPTC Level 2 Award which is a pre-requisite.

Course content

On completion you will:

  • Know the legislative and safety regulations relating to the application of granular pesticides
  • Be able to assess the environmental factors relating to the application site
  • Be able to read and interpret product information
  • Be able to prepare and calibrate the application equipment
  • Be able to operate the application equipment
  • Know how to carry out post-operational procedures

Assessment methods

The assessment for this NPTC course normally takes place within 14 days of the initial training.  The assessment cost is included in the course fee. You will receive an NPTC Certificate of Competence.

Further study and career options

The qualification gained from completing this course will be beneficial for you career if you work in the agriculture and horticulture industries, or if you are self-employed in such a role as gardener or groundskeeper. You can also also study Pesticide Application (PA2): Ground Crop Sprayer NPTC Level 2 Award, and Pesticide Application (PA6A): Hand Held Applicators NPTC Level 2 Award.


Additional information

To take part in this course you must bring PPE (personal protective equipment) and other tools and equipment as listed on the joining instructions. You can also view the PPE and tools list here. These will be emailed to you a few weeks before the course is due to start – please contact us to confirm you have the required items.

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
