Chainsaw Maintenance & Crosscutting NPTC Level 2 Award (CS30)
The Chainsaws and Related Operations courses offer a range of practical skills and assessments covering all aspects of chainsaw work. This two-day course will cover chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting and stacking techniques, and is delivered by one of Shuttleworth College's qualified instructors. This course is designed for professional chainsaw users who work, or intend to work, in professional amenity arboriculture or within forestry. Gaining an NPTC qualification will demonstrate that you have gained the required practical skill and technical knowledge for such roles.

There are no requirements for beginning this course.
Course content
You will study the following topics:
- Understanding operator safety during chainsaw maintenance
- Carrying out routine and periodic maintenance to a chainsaw
- Starting and checking a chainsaw
- Understanding operator safety during chainsaw use
- Safely crosscutting timber that is less than guidebar length in diameter
- Stacking crosscut timber.
Assessment methods
The assessment for NPTC course normally takes place 10 to 14 days after the initial training and is a full day, the price is included in the course price. You will receive a NPTC Certificate of Competence.
Further study and career options
Gaining this qualification will be beneficial if you are working in the horticultural or arboricultural industries, or if you are working self-employed as, for example, a tree surgeon.
