More national success for Fashion & Textiles students

The undergraduate Fashion & Textile students at Bedford College have once again been successful in a national competition, this time with The Bradford Textile Society.

This is a prestigious textile competition entered by the UK’s top textile universities with more than 1,000 entries. Sophie Penwright from Bedford College was awarded 1st place in her category: THE CLOTHWORKERS’ COMPANY AWARD – A printed textile design for either fashion or interiors which shows creative potential. The prize-winning work was also on display at the Dye House Gallery in Bradford.

Elisa Bratton, Textiles Lecturer, enthused: “It is really exciting to see how the HND course here at Bedford College is competing on a national scale alongside the top BA institutions in the country in not only fashion (with the recent Professional Clothing Awards shortlisting 2nd year running), but now also within the textile print sector and the prestigious Bradford Prize.”

In 2017 three Fashion & Textile Higher Education students at Bedford College took 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in the national Professional Clothing Awards. Abby Simpson, Sarah Davis and Megan Schneider made up their designs made up for the showcase event in London on June 21st. At the same time Bedford College won the overall ‘Best University’ plaque.

"2017 was a massive competition that received 100s of entries from top Fashion & Textile BA degree courses nationally, including institutions such as Nottingham and Brighton. Reaching the semi-finals involved our students being awarded a grant to make up their submitted designs, these were then showcased on the catwalk at the 2018 Professional Clothing Awards" said Elisa Bratton, HND and Level 3 Fashion & Textiles Course Manager.
