IT Essentials CISCO Level 2 (CompTIA A+ exam optional)

This course will give you a practical and theoretical insight into computer maintenance and installation and leads on to the CISCO IT Essentials 1 Certificate (on successful completion of an online theory test and practical examination). If you wish to undertake the CompTIA A+ Certificate you will be required to pay for the exam fees prior to taking the exams. CompTIA A+ Certificate is an internationally recognised entry level qualification for IT professionals or PC Service Technicians.


Entry requirements

You should have a good understanding of computer hardware and operating systems. If you are 21 or over you may gain entry to the course, subject to a successful interview, and will be considered individually on your experience rather than your qualifications.

Course content

You will study:

  • Installing, Configuring & Upgrading Hardware
  • Diagnosing & Troubleshooting Hardware
  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Basic Networking Operating Systems Technologies
  • Operating System Fundamentals - Installing, Upgrading & Configuring Operating Systems
  • Troubleshooting Operating Systems
  • Establishing Networks Using Various Operating Systems.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through a combination of online training, lectures, discussions and practical work. You will be required to take a final online multiple choice theory assessment and a skills based test to achieve the CISCO IT Essentials 1 Certificate. In addition, those wishing to achieve the A+ Certificate will undertake a further two online multiple choice assessments.

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
