Computing (Network Engineering/Security/Applications Development) BTEC HND
This course will allow you to develop a range of specialist technical skills, enabling you to meet the demands of employers in the computing sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world. The programme will cover a broad range of computing topics that may be encountered in modern business. After completion on the HNC in the first year, you will be able to choose from the following pathways at HND:

The programme will help you to develop a sound understanding of the principles in your chosen field of study and you will learn how to apply these principles more widely. You will be able to perform effectively in your chosen field and will have the qualities necessary for employment.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- GCSEs A*-C in English and maths or Functional Skills, AND
- IT Apprenticeship Level 3, OR
- A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Computing, OR
- A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject, or adequate performance in more than one subject, OR
- Other related Level 3 qualifications, OR
- An Access to Higher Education Diploma in a Computing or related subject.
We also welcome applications from mature students who will be considered on relevant work experience rather than qualifications.
Course content
You will be expected to attend College for two full days a week.
You will gain academic, technical and professional training, leading to the skills necessary to design, implement, support, evaluate or manage IT systems in a vast range of industries, with the aim of gaining interesting and well paid employment, or possibly continuing your education to BSc (Hons) level after completing your HND.

Assessment methods
Assessment is 100% assignment based. There are no formal examinations associated with this programme. Teaching methods include lectures, practical sessions, group work, tutorials and workshops. In addition, substantial learning resources and support material are available on-line facilitating home study.

Significant additional study will be required outside College hours to be successful on this programme. Higher Education loans, grants and bursaries may be available to fund these programmes. You will need to spend £25 to attend trips that will complement your course.

Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 7 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
