Software Developer Higher Apprenticeship Level 4

This Apprenticeship is designed for those working in a software developer role building and testing high-quality code. A developer will typically be working as part of a larger team, in which they will have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall project. The developer will need to be able to interpret design documentation and specifications. As part of this Apprenticeship Standard you will also achieve a Level 4 HNC in Computing and/or a Level 5 HND in Computing.

Entry requirements
Grade requirements: Individual employers will set the selection criteria; but this is likely to include A-Levels, a Level 3 Apprenticeship, or other relevant qualifications or experience.

- HNC in Computing
- HND in Computing (optional)
- Knowledge Module 1: Software Development Methodologies
- Knowledge Module 2: Software Language
Assessment methods
On programme assessment – through a combination of Ofqual-regulated knowledge modules and specified vendor and professional qualifications. These must be passed before the end point assessment can take place.
End point assessment – The final end point assessment is completed in the last few months of the apprenticeship. It is based on: a portfolio, a project, an employer reference and a structured interview with an Assessor.

Further study: On successful completion you could progress to a top-up degree.
Additional information
To be eligible for an apprenticeship you must either be employed on a full-time contract by an employer willing to support your training or have an offer of employment as an apprentice. Bedford College can help you find a job role with an employer if you don’t already have one.
HNC
If you are able to attend college for one day a week this apprenticeship will take three years to complete.
If you are able to attend college two days a week it will take two years to complete.
HND
This will be two days a week for two years and then a further 6-12 months to prepare for the end point assessment.
