Construction Maintenance Operations Apprenticeship Level 2

This Level 2 Apprenticeship is designed to develop the skills and knowledge you will need for industry employment in your chosen craft. The course has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment, and the tests are based on demonstrations of what you can do as an individual through the completion of the qualification’s requirements. You will study a range of topics during the course, gaining practical experience and theoretical knowledge of carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, plastering, erecting working platforms, plumbing, roof lead work, painting and decorating, and health and safety with a focus on maintenance.

Entry requirements

You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week in a relevant job role and have a keen interest in construction maintenance. Some evidence of studying at GCSE level would be an advantage.

Course content

This qualification will consist of...

General core units 

  • Occupation specific units
  • Practical assignment
  • Online testing of knowledge.

During the course you can study a range of topics, including:

  • Carrying out safe working practices in construction
  • Information, quantities and communicating with others
  • Building methods and construction technology
  • Carrying out small-scale masonry trade repairs
  • Carrying out small-scale painting, decorating and associated trade repairs
  • Carrying out small-scale plastering trade repairs
  • Carrying out small-scale plumbing trade repairs
  • Carrying out small-scale wood trade repairs.

Assessment methods

To gain the qualification you must be successful in all units, and complete a synoptic practical assignment. You must also pass the GOLA online test, a separate knowledge test set and marked by the Construction Awards Alliance (CAA).

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship you can continue on to an Advanced Apprenticeship in a particular trade, such as carpentry or bricklaying. You can also pursue a supervisory or management career pathway within the construction industry.

In addition to the mandatory core units of the qualification, optional units for each trade element are available for selection according to your job role.
