Approving Electrical Installation Work in Dwellings (2397-31) Level 3 Award
The qualification aims to provide expert guidance to learners wishing to gain knowledge and understanding of electrical installations within dwellings. This qualification is primarily aimed at electrical installers, wishing to progress further in employment. On successful completion candidates will become eligible and recognised by certification bodies, as competent to undertake electrical work. This will be the minimum qualification level for Qualified Supervisors responsible for electrical work in domestic properties subject to Part P of the Building Regulations (England and Wales).
Entry requirements
You will need to have good numeracy and literacy skills; prior knowledge or experience within the Electrotechnical industry is also required. Entry to the course will be subject to a successful interview.
Please note individuals with less than 24 months electrical experience will be required to undertake a C&G Level 3 Certificate (2397-30) and individuals with 24 months or more electrical experience with undertake a C&G Level 3 Award (2397-31).
Course content
The 2397 qualification will be the minimum qualification level, for qualified supervisors responsible for electrical work in domestic properties, subject to Part P of the Building Regulations (England and Wales).
The course will be a mix of theory/practical, onsite assessment and directed studies.
Units include:
- Understand and apply Health and Safety legislation, practices and procedures 'electrical installation in dwellings'
- Understand and apply environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems associated with electrical installations in dwellings
- Understand and apply the practices and procedures for overseeing and organising the work environment when installing electrical installations in dwellings
- Electrotechnical occupational competence- approval of electrical installations in dwellings
- Understanding and applying the principles, practices and procedures for the planning, preparation and selection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in dwellings
- Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrical installations in dwellings
- Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the installation and connection of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in dwellings
- Understand and apply the principles , practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning, approving and certification of electrical installations in dwellings
- Approval and certification of electrical installations in dwellings (2397-31)

Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
