Electrical & Electronic Engineering BTEC Level 3 Diploma
If you are a trainee or an apprentice, this nationally recognised course equips you with the skills you need to develop your career in electrical or electronic engineering.
Entry requirements
You need three GCSEs at grade C or above in Mathematics, Science and English, OR a First Certificate/Diploma in a related subject, OR an equivalent Level 2 qualification. If you are over 21, you may gain entry to the course subject to a successful interview, and will be considered individually on your experience rather than your qualifications.
Course content
Year 1 Units - for 60-credit Subsidiary Diploma only.
- Health and Safety in the Workplace
- Communications for Engineering Technicians
- Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
- Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits
- Electronic Measurement and Testing
Year 2 Units – for the full 120-credit Diploma:
- Engineering Project
- Further Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
- Selecting and Using Programmable Logic Controllers
- Microprocessor Systems and Applications
- Further Electrical Principles
Assessment methods
Assessment is on a continuing basis and will include phase tests and assignments.
Further study and career options
Successful completion enables you to progress on to our HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar level qualifications.

Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
