English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Full-time Programme (16-18 only)
These courses will help you to improve your English for work, everyday life or further study.
There are five levels to choose from depending upon your existing skills: Beginners (Entry Level 1), Elementary (Entry Level 2), Lower Intermediate (Entry Level 3) Higher Intermediate (Level 1) and Advanced (Level 2).
Entry requirements
You do not need any qualifications to
start, but you must be between 16 and
18 years old by 31 August 2020 and you
must be normally resident in the UK.
You will need to attend an assessment
interview before you start to help decide
which level is best for you.
Course content
During this study programme you will cover a variety of language and other skills, including:
- Reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Grammar and structure
- Pronunciation
- Vocabulary development
- Maths
- ILT (using computers to learn language)
- Employability skills (including work placements)
You will also learn about Health, Education, Local Government, the Royal Family and other topics, which are all part of being a citizen in the UK.
Assessment methods
You will work towards the English Speaking Board awards and certificates in Skills for Life ESOL at an appropriate level.

- Level 1
- Level 2
Your teachers will do practice exams
with you throughout the year before
entering you for exams.
Further study and career options
On successful completion, you could
continue to learn English at a higher
level or progress on to another course
at the College. (Please note that your
English level will have to be at Level 1
or above to apply for other courses at
the College.)
Additional information
You will need to attend a minimum of 15 hours per week and you will need to attend a work placement that we will arrange for you. There is an additional cost of £30 for materials.
