Body Massage City & Guilds Level 3 Award
This Level 3 course will provide you with essential skills and knowledge, as well as an industry-recognised City & Guilds professional qualification in Swedish Body Massage. Achieving this qualification will enable you to gain insurance to work with clients and improve your employment prospects. The skills you will learn during the course can be added to other treatments so you can broaden the services you can offer your clients.
Entry requirements
To begin this course you must have:
- a good standard of English (we will conduct a BKSB test at interview) to allow for study and competence for the online examinations.
- City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Health and Safety for the Hair and Beauty (at an additional cost) or already hold a recognised qualification in Health & Safety (proof will be required).
- Evidence of working at GCSE grade D (3) and above or
- Any Level 2 or 3 qualifications
It is also desirable that you have good people skills that enhance working with clients.
Course content
The course will cover a range of topics, including:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Posture and common postural faults
- Massage movements and their applications
- Different massage mediums
- Health and safety legislation relating to body massage
- Contraindications to massage, and contra actions that may be experienced following a massage
- Basic aftercare.
By taking part in this course you will:
- Be able to prepare for a body massage treatment
- Be able to provide a body massage treatment
- Have a knowledge of health and safety in relation to body massage.
Assessment methods
You will be assessed through practical assessments both formative and summative (graded) in the College salons, as well as theory exams via City & Guilds online assessments.
Further study and career options
On successful completion of this course you could progress on to employment with a salon or clinic, supplying body massages to clients or study further Awards.
Additional information
To take part in this course you will be required to provide:
- Stationery, such as folders (x2) and a clipboard
- Black headband
- A uniform, purchased via the College (£41.60)
It is also advised that you have a massage couch to practice on at home, as you will find it difficult to complete the course without one.
Please note: You will also need to complete the City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Health and Safety for Hair and Beauty during your course at a cost of £45 if you don’t hold such a qualification.
Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 7 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
