Hair Services Level 3 Diploma

This Level 3 course is ideal if you've completed the NVQ or VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing and want to develop your skills within this specialised area. You will broaden and develop your knowledge whilst learning new and advanced techniques within the commercial surroundings of BROOKS Hair & Beauty. By advancing and progressing within the Hairdressing Industry, you will open up greater employment opportunities, for example in technical and training support within industry led manufacturers.

Entry requirements

To start this course you must have achieved either NVQ Level 2 or VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing qualifications. 

You will also need to have a good basic knowledge of maths and English, with excellent communication skills. You will need to demonstrate an enhanced and motivated interest in hairdressing, and be able to address clients and colleagues in a professional manner. Your personal presentation will need to be of a high standard.

You will be asked to undertake an initial assessment and interview, which will include Trade Testing, prior to being accepted on to the programme.

Course content

You will study a range of units during the course including:

  • Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
  • Advanced Hair Cutting services
  • Style & Dress Hair
  • Colour hair to create a variety of looks
  • Human resource management

Plus, Bedford College certificates in Create an Image Based on Theme and Creative Styling.

Applicants and learners aged 17-18 will also have to complete the compulsory elements below as part of the programme:

  • Functional Skills – English Level 1 or 2
  • Functional Skills – Maths Level 1 or 2 OR
  • GCSE English and Maths.

You will have the opportunity to visit Salon International in October and take part in the BROOKS Hair & Beauty Show in May. Other trips are available through the year depending on interest.

There are also opportunities to attend and take part in external one day courses, for example Balmain creative styling.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed through practical client salon service provision and online testing throughout the year.

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this course you can progress on to other beauty courses, media make-up, and assessing and teaching progressions available through the College.

You could also go on to study Salon Management at university and progress in your career to senior stylist level, salon management, rep technician, session stylist or artistic director, to name a few.
