Hairdressing Advanced (Level 3)

Level 3 is ideal if you've completed NVQ or VRQ L2 Hairdressing and you want to develop your skills within this specialised area. You want to broaden and develop your knowledge whilst learning new and advanced techniques. A full-time opportunity to progress skills and knowledge of the Level 3 Hairdressing programme while working within the commercial surroundings of Brooks Hair and Beauty. You will advance and progression within the Hairdressing Industry, offering greater employment opportunities e.g. technical and training support within industry led manufacturers and the Wig making industry.

Entry requirements

To begin this study programme you will need... 

Duration: 1 Year
  •  Hairdressing qualification at Level 2 with Functional Skills or GCSE English and maths at grade A*-C or 9-4.

Course content

  • Subject units:
    • Health & safety
    • Consultation support for colleagues on hair services
    • Advanced hair cutting services
    • Style and dress hair
    • Colour hair to create a variety of looks
    • Creative hairdressing design skills
    • Human Resources 
  • English and maths:
    If you don't already have GCSE English and maths grade A*-C, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills. 
  • Work experience
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 
  • Additional vocational learning and qualifications

Assessment methods

Practical Client salon service provision and online testing throughout the year.

Further study and career options

On successful completion of this study programme a candidate can progress to: Beauty courses, Media Make-up, assessing and teaching progressions available through the College; Salon Management available through selected University options; Progression to senior stylist level, salon management, Rep technician, Wig maker, session stylist, artistic director.

Additional information

There are some additional costs associated with this course. You will need to pay for practice block heads x 2 – £144, wig making kit – £95.00, and hairdressing tunic and trousers – £46 (hairdressing kit to be used from previous course).

We also offer the following trips: 

  • Salon International – October each year
  • Brooks Hair and Beauty show – May each year

Other trips are available through the year depending on interest.

If you are aged 24 or over you may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable. Find out more about your payment options at

Funding information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses are still free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you’re over 23 or studying a second Level 3 qualification, you will need to pay a fee. Find out more on our financial support page at
