Vehicle Accident Repair Body Principles IMI Level 2 Diploma
This qualification is a two year course which combines classroom based knowledge with practical skills relevant to the vehicle repair industry. This course is suitable if you have prior knowledge and experience of working in the vehicle body repair industry, your qualifications are no longer valid or you don't have relevant qualifications.

Course content
This course involves theory and practical aspects, including:
- Removing and replacing body panels
- Removing and replacing mechanical, electrical and trim components
- MAG/MIG welding
- Resistance spot welding
- Vehicle construction and materials
You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage. This qualification also forms the knowledge component (technical certificate) of the IMI SSC Accident Repair Apprenticeship framework (Body).
Assessment methods
Assessment is through written phase tests, online multiple choice exams, and practical workshop based tasks that are individually assessed. On successful completion you will gain IMI certification. The course is 50% workshop-based and 50% theory.
Further study and career options
Students can progress onto a Vehicle Accident Repair Body Principles IMI Level 3 Diploma course. This Level 2 qualification also prepares technicians for ATA assessment Panel Technician level.
Additional information
During this part-time course you will need to attend College for one day a week, with a balance of training being undertaken at the workplace. You will need to provide your own safety equipment for the course, including footwear, overalls and safety goggles.
Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
