Plumbing & Heating City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 Diploma (Environmental Pathway)
This course is perfect if you want to work in the mechanical engineering services sector and want to progress as a qualified plumber or heating engineer. You will be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the necessary skills and have the knowledge required to be assessed against the National Occupational Standards. The course is designed to give you a trade qualification for life.
Entry requirements
To begin this course you will need a full Level 2 Plumbing qualification.
Course content
This course will cover elements of health and safety, hot and cold water, domestic central heating, and servicing and maintaining plumbing systems. The following optional pathways are available, giving you the chance to specialise your skills: gas, oil, solid fuel and environmental technologies.
During the course you can study the following units (in addition to the selected pathway):
- Understand how to organise resources within BSE
- Understand and apply domestic cold water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Understand and apply domestic hot water system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Understand and apply domestic central heating system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Understand and carry out electrical work on domestic plumbing and heating systems and components
- Understand and apply domestic sanitation system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance techniques
- Install, commission, service and maintain domestic plumbing and heating systems.
There will also be opportunities to attend trade shows and visit manufacturers.
Assessment methods
You will be assessed via seven online exams, along with four planning assignments (written papers) and 20 College-based practical assessments).

Pay by instalments
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 7 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
