Exercise & Fitness Apprenticeship Level 2

This Apprenticeship programme is ideal if you are already employed in the fitness industry or want to enter the industry and progress your career. You will experience paid employment within the fitness industry, earning a salary and gaining valuable experience in the workplace whilst learning and gaining commercially recognised qualifications. 

Entry requirements

You will need at least a Grade C at GSCE in Maths and English.

Course content

The Apprenticeship will focus on preparing you for employment within the fitness industry.  You will learn about Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Safety and designing exercise programmes, while gaining experience working in a leisure environment.

You will study to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym-Based exercise)
  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness (Gym-based exercise)
  • Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  • Level 2 Functional Skills (Maths and English).

Assessment methods

You will be assessed by a range of methods including, observations, written assignments, professional discussions, question and answer, and multiple choice exams.

  • Instructing Exercise and Fitness (Gym-based exercise) Level 2 NVQ Diploma
  • Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning
  • Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT (if required)
Further study and career options

After this programme you could progress on to an Advanced Level programme or go straight into employment as a fitness instructor.

Additional information

You will be at your work placement four out of the five days per week.
